This is a new website of videos and photos (e.g. multimedia) that probably was created for adults, but is suitable for a much younger audience. Much of it inspires wonder and and curiosity about our world.
Brad Flickenger, an elementary computer teacher from Colorado, has done a video tutorial on typing for kindergarteners. He talks about his experience of using a particular website to teach typing to his kindergarten students.
He’s done another video for first grade too! He tells us any word processor can work (he uses Pages!), and I love learning from his experience in working with students to begin their exploration of the keyboard and basic word processing functionality.
Key ISTE technology standards for students in grades K-1 include building skills towards using computer technology. The more practice students have with a mouse, trackpad, and navigating the keys on the keyboard, the further along they can go towards using a computer for communication, problem solving, and adopting safe practices when accessing the Web.
