Goochland County Schools this year engaged teachers by introducing student-centered projects focused around twenty-first century skills. While each teacher was responsible for implementing and planning a G21 project, a select number entered their projects into our G21 Faire. These projects were evaluated by a team of educators on several criteria including the use of technology, the reproducibility of the project, and the number of twenty-first century skills addressed by the project.
While all of the projects are available for perusal, it is the time for us to announce the winner of this year’s G21 Faire. Comments from judges included: “The quality of what kids produced and what you shared with us was awesome. Excellent job, especially the planning required to make it successful.” Another comment: “Again, love the ‘real world use’ this project has; find a need in the school and use the students to solve the problem.” Another comment: “WOW!” And another: “Having long and short-term goals articulated for students is an essential lifelong skill. This was my favorite project!”
Our congratulations go out to Ms. Jillian Edwards and her students at Goochland Middle School. You can view her project as a Quicktime video online. She will be recognized at our upcoming school board meeting for her superlative project that required of students a high-tech solution to an authentic problem utilizing a number of twenty-first century skills.
